  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to motor vehicles; authorizing sale by local 
  1.3             units of government of impounded junk vehicles that 
  1.4             are less than three years old; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1996, section 168B.051, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 168B.051, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [SALE AFTER 15 DAYS.] An impounded vehicle 
  1.10  is eligible for disposal or sale under section 168B.08, 15 days 
  1.11  after notice to the owner, if the vehicle is determined to be: 
  1.12     (1) a junk vehicle, except that it may have a valid, 
  1.13  current registration plate or be less than three years old and 
  1.14  still be eligible for disposal or sale under this subdivision; 
  1.15  or 
  1.16     (2) an abandoned vehicle.
