  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; providing for a rebate of 
  1.3             certain vehicle registration fees; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1994, section 168.017, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 168.017, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4a.  [REBATE.] Motor vehicle lessors licensed under 
  1.10  section 168.27 are entitled to a rebate of vehicle registration 
  1.11  fees paid on vehicles owned by the lessor.  The rebate for each 
  1.12  vehicle shall be proportionate to the monetary value of the 
  1.13  unexpired months of the vehicle registration period at the time 
  1.14  ownership of the vehicle is transferred to a person residing 
  1.15  outside the state.  Claims for rebate shall be filed annually on 
  1.16  March 1 for the preceding year listing all vehicles for which a 
  1.17  rebate is claimed, including the vehicle identification number 
  1.18  and complete registration information for each vehicle.  The 
  1.19  claims shall be filed with the commissioner on forms prescribed 
  1.20  by the commissioner.  The rebate shall bear no interest.
