  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state government; modifying provisions 
  1.3             governing the interchange of government employees; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 15.53, 
  1.5             subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 15.53, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [PERIOD OF ASSIGNMENT.] The period of individual 
  1.10  assignment or detail under an interchange program shall not 
  1.11  exceed 24 months, nor shall any person be assigned or detailed 
  1.12  for more than 24 months during any 36-month period, except when 
  1.13  the assignment or detail is made to coincide with an 
  1.14  unclassified appointment under section 15.06 be determined by 
  1.15  agreement between the sending and receiving agencies.  Details 
  1.16  relating to any matter covered in sections 15.51 to 15.57 may be 
  1.17  the subject of an agreement between the sending and receiving 
  1.18  agencies.  Elected officials shall not be assigned from a 
  1.19  sending agency nor detailed to a receiving agency.
