  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; authorizing a grant for 
  1.3             independent school district No. 624, White Bear Lake; 
  1.4             appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [CLASS SIZE REDUCTION GRANT; WHITE BEAR LAKE.] 
  1.7      (a) $500,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 1997 from the 
  1.8   general fund to the department of children, families, and 
  1.9   learning for a grant to independent school district No. 624, 
  1.10  White Bear Lake. 
  1.11     (b) The grant must be used by independent school district 
  1.12  No. 624, White Bear Lake, to reduce class size in the elementary 
  1.13  grades.  The district must measure the performance of students 
  1.14  in the reduced class size settings and report the results to the 
  1.15  education committees of the legislature by January 30, 1997.
