  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor vehicles; removing inspection 
  1.3             requirement for vehicle having a salvage certificate 
  1.4             of title; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 
  1.5             168A.152, subdivisions 1 and 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 168A.152, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [CERTIFICATE OF INSPECTION.] A salvage 
  1.10  certificate of title authorizes the holder to possess, 
  1.11  transport, and transfer ownership in a vehicle.  A salvage 
  1.12  certificate of title does not authorize the holder to register a 
  1.13  vehicle.  A certificate of title must not be issued for a 
  1.14  vehicle for which a salvage certificate of title has been issued 
  1.15  unless a certification of inspection in the form and content 
  1.16  specified by the department accompanies the application for a 
  1.17  certificate of title. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 168A.152, 
  1.19  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.20     Subd. 2.  [INSPECTION FEE.] A fee of $20 $10 must be paid 
  1.21  to the department before the department issues a certificate of 
  1.22  title for a vehicle that has been inspected and for which a 
  1.23  salvage certificate of inspection title has been issued pursuant 
  1.24  to subdivision 1.  The only additional fee that may be assessed 
  1.25  for issuing the certificate of title is the filing fee imposed 
  2.1   under section 168.33, subdivision 7. 
  2.2      Fees collected by the department under this subdivision, 
  2.3   for conducting inspections under subdivision 1, must be 
  2.4   deposited in the general fund.
