  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to water; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             department of natural resources for exploration of 
  1.4             groundwater supplies. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $200,000 is appropriated to the department of natural 
  1.8   resources for the 1996-1997 biennium to contract with water well 
  1.9   contractors for exploratory drilling and installation of 
  1.10  observation wells to characterize the geologic and hydrologic 
  1.11  conditions in areas of the state where water supplies are 
  1.12  difficult to locate.  The results of this work will determine 
  1.13  the availability of groundwater beginning in the southwestern 
  1.14  portion of the state and continuing to the northern and eastern 
  1.15  portions.
