A bill for an act
relating to elections; providing that a state general
election on questions may be held in the odd-numbered
year; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, sections
200.02, subdivision 2; 204D.03, subdivision 2.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 200.02,
subdivision 2, is amended to read:


Subd. 2.

General election.

"General election" means an
election held at regular intervals on a day determined by law or
charter at which the voters of the state or any of its
subdivisions choose by ballot public officials or presidential

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 204D.03,
subdivision 2, is amended to read:


Subd. 2.

State general election.

new text begin (a) new text end The state general
election shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first
Monday in November in each even-numbered year.

new text begin (b) The legislature may provide for a state general
election to vote only on constitutional amendments to be held on
the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in an
odd-numbered year. At such a general election, combined polling
places may be used pursuant to section 204B.14 and mail
balloting may be used pursuant to section 204B.45.
