A bill for an act
relating to public safety; prohibiting commercial vehicles from driving in the left
lane; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 169.18, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 169.18, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Commercial vehicles keep right. new text end

new text begin (a) On laned highways, as defined under
subdivision 7, commercial vehicles must not drive in the leftmost lane except to:

new text begin (1) overtake or pass another vehicle under subdivision 1, clause (1);
new text end

new text begin (2) move over for emergency vehicles under subdivision 11; or
new text end

new text begin (3) move over for vehicles under subdivision 12.

new text begin (b) Violation of this subdivision is a petty misdemeanor.
