Bare soil that contains lead in a concentration of at least 100 parts per million but less than 5,000 parts per million must be removed or covered as follows:
if soil is to be covered with concrete, asphalt, or other similar impervious material, the soil must first be compacted before covering;
if soil is to be covered with sand, wood chips, or other nonliving, permeable material, the soil must be removed to a depth that eliminates visible paint chips and debris.
The lead concentration in any replacement soil must not exceed 25 parts per million according to Minnesota Statutes, section 144.9508, subdivision 2, paragraph (c).
Erosion control methods must be used during all lead hazard reduction. The final surface must provide erosion control.
