                        CHAPTER 231-S.F.No. 274 
           An act relating to civil commitment; requiring a 
          hearing for the continued commitment of mentally 
          retarded persons; amending Minnesota Statutes 1984, 
          section 253B.13, subdivision 2. 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:  
    Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1984, section 253B.13, 
subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
    Subd. 2.  [MENTALLY RETARDED PERSONS.] If the court finds 
upon review of the treatment report, at the conclusion of a 
hearing held pursuant to section 253B.12, it is found that the 
person continues to be mentally retarded, it the court shall 
order commitment of the person for an indeterminate period of 
time, subject to the reviews required by section 253B.03, 
subdivisions 5 and 7, and subject to the right of the patient to 
seek judicial review of continued commitment.
