                            CHAPTER 177-S.F.No. 1968 
                  An act relating to labor; requiring a study for the 
                  safe operation of cranes. 
        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
           Section 1.  [CRANE SAFETY STUDY.] 
           The commissioner of labor and industry shall study ways to 
        ensure the safe operation of cranes on construction sites.  The 
        commissioner shall form a task force with interested parties and 
        stakeholders during this study including, but not limited to, 
        the Minnesota Building and Construction Trades Council and 
        related contractor organizations. 
           By January 15, 2002, the commissioner shall report to the 
        chairs of the policy committees with jurisdiction over labor 
        issues, recommendations of the task force on ways to achieve the 
        safe operation of cranes on construction sites through 
        certification and other requirements, including any possible 
        legislative or administrative changes.
