                            CHAPTER 125-S.F.No. 1222
An act relating to veterans; authorizing the placement
of a plaque on the capitol mall recognizing the
service of Minnesota's civilians who contributed
valiantly to the nation's war efforts during World War
                  II.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. [PLAQUE HONORING THOUSANDS OF CIVILIANS WHO
CONTRIBUTED TO WORLD WAR II EFFORT.]
A memorial plaque may be placed in the court of honor on
the capitol grounds to recognize the valiant service of
thousands of men and women who served honorably and bravely as
civilians in supporting the nation's war effort during World War
II, and who years later had bestowed upon them by Congress the
status of veteran. Often this service was at great risk to
personal safety and in the face of the enemy. Several thousands
of these brave and noble civilians sacrificed their lives during
the course of this patriotic service. The plaque must be
furnished by a person or organization other than the department
of veterans affairs and must be approved by the commissioner of
veterans affairs and the capitol area architectural and planning
        board.
           Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.]
Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
Presented to the governor May 16, 2001
