A bill for an act
relating to education finance; appropriating money for a Truce Center programming
grant.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.

Subdivision 1.

Department of Education.

The sum indicated in this section is
appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education for the fiscal year
designated.

Subd. 2.

Truce Center grant.

(a) For a grant to the Truce Center to continue to provide
and expand metropolitan area school and community-based programs that encourage and
support at-risk youth:

(b) Truce Center programs supported by these grant funds must include programs focused
on:

(1) supporting at-risk youth by partnering with local schools to offer behavior intervention
for at-risk youth;

(2) offering a unique and inclusive approach to rehabilitation and reform by grounding
youth in diverse perspectives;

(3) teaching youth about politics, democracy, history, and sense of self through
experiential learning;

(4) increasing the scope of program services and capacity in high-risk areas around
Minnesota to prevent violence and decrease the prevalence of firearm possession by felons;

(5) mentoring youth ages eight to 18 years old and providing tutoring services, career
training, and job placement services;

(6) providing housing resources to combat adult and teen homelessness;

(7) providing mediation services and classes for successfully addressing coparenting
issues, and educating families on the justice system and family court system;

(8) assisting with chemical dependency counseling for youth struggling with addiction;
and

(9) ensuring safe and thriving communities through other community programs and
forms of community outreach.

(c) This is a onetime appropriation. This appropriation is available until June 30, 2025.
