  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; permitting Grand Rapids 
  1.3             Township to hold its general election in November. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP; NOVEMBER GENERAL 
  1.6   ELECTION.] 
  1.7      Grand Rapids Township may designate the first Tuesday after 
  1.8   the first Monday in November of either the even-numbered or the 
  1.9   odd-numbered year as the date of the town general election.  The 
  1.10  ordinance or resolution changing the date of the town general 
  1.11  election must include a plan to shorten or lengthen the terms of 
  1.12  office to provide for an orderly transition to the November 
  1.13  election schedule.  The ordinance or resolution changing the 
  1.14  date of the town general election may be proposed by the town 
  1.15  board or by a resolution of the electors adopted at the annual 
  1.16  meeting and is effective upon an affirmative vote of the 
  1.17  electors at the next town general election.  Town supervisors 
  1.18  elected at a November election shall serve three-year terms and 
  1.19  shall serve until a successor is elected and qualified.
