A bill for an act
relating to transportation; mass transit; requiring deployment of peace officers for
each light rail transit train in operation; authorizing arrest for violations of public
nuisance and crimes involving transit; amending Minnesota Statutes 2018, sections
473.407, by adding a subdivision; 609.855, by adding a subdivision.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 473.407, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

The council must deploy at least one peace officer
on each light rail transit train in operation. A peace officer must remain available to respond
to assistance requests from train operators and other council employees.

This section is effective the day following
final enactment and applies in the counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey,
Scott, and Washington.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 609.855, is amended by adding a subdivision to
read:

A peace officer may arrest or immediately remove a
person from a transit vehicle or facility if the person commits a violation under subdivision
3 or section 609.74 while in a transit vehicle or facility.

This section is effective the day following final enactment and
applies to violations committed on or after that date.
