  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to highways; lengthening Laura Ingalls Wilder 
  1.3             Historic Highway; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.4             section 161.14, subdivision 29. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 161.14, 
  1.7   subdivision 29, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 29.  [LAURA INGALLS WILDER HISTORIC HIGHWAY.] Marked 
  1.9   trunk highway No. 14, from its intersection with marked trunk 
  1.10  highway No. 169 in or near the city of Mankato to its terminus 
  1.11  at the Minnesota-South Dakota border, easterly to its 
  1.12  intersection with marked U.S. highway No. 63 in or near 
  1.13  Rochester and then northerly and southerly along marked U.S. 
  1.14  highway No. 63, as follows: 
  1.15     (1) northerly along marked U.S. highway No. 63 to its 
  1.16  intersection with marked U.S. highway No. 61 in or near Lake 
  1.17  City and then southeasterly along U.S. highway No. 61 to its 
  1.18  intersection with marked trunk highway No. 60 in or near the 
  1.19  city of Wabasha and then northeasterly along marked trunk 
  1.20  highway No. 60 to its intersection with the Minnesota-Wisconsin 
  1.21  border; and 
  1.22     (2) southerly along marked U.S. highway No. 63 to its 
  1.23  intersection with marked trunk highway No. 16 and then easterly 
  1.24  along marked trunk highway No. 16 to its intersection with 
  1.25  marked U.S. highway No. 52 in or near the city of Preston and 
  2.1   then southerly and easterly along marked U.S. highway No. 52 to 
  2.2   the Minnesota-Iowa border, 
  2.3   is designated the "Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Highway."  The 
  2.4   commissioner of transportation shall adopt a suitable marking 
  2.5   design to mark this highway and shall erect appropriate 
  2.6   signs.  The people of the community, having resolved to support 
  2.7   and financially back the marking of this highway, shall 
  2.8   reimburse the department for costs incurred in marking and 
  2.9   memorializing this highway.
