A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring the Minnesota State High School League to adopt
regulations relating to youth hockey; appropriating money; amending Minnesota
Statutes 2016, section 128C.01, subdivision 3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 128C.01, subdivision 3, is amended to read:


Subd. 3.

League power to control.

new text begin (a) new text end The State High School League may control
contests by and between pupils of the Minnesota high schools that are delegated to it under
this section.

new text begin (b) The league must adopt league rules and regulations providing that:

new text begin (1) the regulation length of a high school varsity hockey game is three 20-minute periods;
and

new text begin (2) high school varsity hockey teams may participate in up to six exhibition games per
season under the control of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission, and exhibition
games under this clause shall not count against the maximum per-season game limit otherwise
established by league rule.

Sec. 2. new text begin APPROPRIATION.
new text end

new text begin $75,000 in fiscal year 2019 is appropriated from the general fund to the Minnesota
Amateur Sports Commission to support high school hockey exhibition games under
Minnesota Statutes, section 128C.01, subdivision 3. The base for fiscal year 2020 is $75,000.
