A bill for an act
relating to consumer protection; requiring lead sinkers, jigs, and lures offered
for sale to bear a warning label; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 325F.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin For purposes of this section, "lead sinker, jig, or lure"
means a device that contains lead and is designed to be attached to a fishing line.

new text begin A person may not offer for sale or sell a lead
sinker, jig, or lure unless it bears a warning label complying with this section. The warning
label must be affixed at the time of packaging to the device, or to the package or box
containing the device, so that it is clearly visible to the buyer.

new text begin The word "warning" must be printed clearly on the
label in uppercase letters that measure at least one-half inch in size centered over the
actual warning. The warning copy must be printed in letters that measure at least 3/32 of
an inch in size and must be printed in ink that strongly contrasts with the background.
The warning copy must state: "Contains lead. Toxic to wildlife and children. Equivalent
products without lead are available."
