  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to watercraft; modifying watercraft licensing 
  1.3             fees; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 
  1.4             86B.415, subdivisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.415, 
  1.7   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [WATERCRAFT 19 FEET OR LESS.] The fee for a 
  1.9   watercraft license for watercraft 19 feet or less in length 
  1.10  is $12 $24 except: 
  1.11     (1) for watercraft 19 feet in length or less that is 
  1.12  offered for rent or lease, the fee is $6 $12; 
  1.13     (2) for a canoe, kayak, sailboat, sailboard, paddle boat, 
  1.14  or rowing shell 19 feet in length or less, the fee is $7 $12; 
  1.15     (3) for a watercraft less than 17 feet in length, the fee 
  1.16  is $18; 
  1.17     (4) for a personal watercraft, the fee is $18; 
  1.18     (5) for a watercraft 19 feet in length or less used by a 
  1.19  nonprofit corporation for teaching boat and water safety, the 
  1.20  fee is as provided in subdivision 4; and 
  1.21     (4) (6) for a watercraft owned by a dealer under a dealer's 
  1.22  license, the fee is as provided in subdivision 5. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.415, 
  1.24  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.25     Subd. 2.  [WATERCRAFT OVER 19 FEET.] Except as provided in 
  2.1   subdivisions 3, 4, and 5, the watercraft license fee: 
  2.2      (1) for a watercraft more than 19 feet but less than 26 
  2.3   feet in length is $20 $40; 
  2.4      (2) for a watercraft 26 feet but less than 40 feet in 
  2.5   length is $30 $60; and 
  2.6      (3) for a watercraft 40 feet in length or longer is $40 $80.
  2.7      Sec. 3.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.415, 
  2.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  2.9      Subd. 3.  [WATERCRAFT OVER 19 FEET FOR HIRE.] The license 
  2.10  fee for a watercraft more than 19 feet in length for hire with 
  2.11  an operator is $50 $80 each.  
  2.12     Sec. 4.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.415, 
  2.13  subdivision 4, is amended to read: 
  2.14     Subd. 4.  [WATERCRAFT USED BY NONPROFIT CORPORATION FOR 
  2.15  TEACHING.] The watercraft license fee for a watercraft used by a 
  2.16  nonprofit organization for teaching boat and water safety is 
  2.17  $3 $6 each.  
  2.18     Sec. 5.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.415, 
  2.19  subdivision 5, is amended to read: 
  2.20     Subd. 5.  [DEALER'S LICENSE.] There is no separate fee for 
  2.21  watercraft owned by a dealer under a dealer's license.  The fee 
  2.22  for a dealer's license is $30 $60.  
  2.23     Sec. 6.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.415, 
  2.24  subdivision 6, is amended to read: 
  2.25     Subd. 6.  [TRANSFER OR DUPLICATE LICENSE.] The fee to 
  2.26  transfer a watercraft license or be issued a duplicate license 
  2.27  is $3 $4.
