A bill for an act
relating to crime; providing for classified employees of the Minnesota Sentencing
Guidelines Commission; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 244.09,
subdivision 10.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 244.09, subdivision 10, is amended to read:
The commission may select and employ a research director
who shall perform the duties the commission directs, including the hiring of any clerical
help and other employees as the commission shall approve. The research director deleted text begin and other
staffdeleted text end shall be in the unclassified service of the state deleted text begin and theirdeleted text end new text begin . Thenew text end compensation new text begin of the
research director and other staff new text end shall be established pursuant to chapter 43A. They shall
be reimbursed for the expenses necessarily incurred in the performance of their official
duties in the same manner as other state employees.

This section is effective July 1, 2022.

On and after the effective date of this section, all staff employed by the Minnesota
Sentencing Guidelines Commission in the unclassified service of the state except for the
research director, shall be placed in the classified service without loss of compensation or
seniority. A staff person placed in the classified service who was employed by the
commission on January 1, 2022, shall not be required to complete a probationary period if
that staff person on the effective date of this section remains in the same position that staff
person occupied on January 1, 2022.
