  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; allowing cities and towns 
  1.3             to set speed limits on their streets and roads without 
  1.4             regard to building density; proposing coding for new 
  1.5             law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 169; repealing 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes 1994, sections 169.01, subdivision 
  1.7             59; and 169.14, subdivision 5b.  
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [169.142] [LOCAL LIMITS.] 
  1.10     Notwithstanding section 169.14 or other law, a local 
  1.11  authority may set speed limits on any of its streets and 
  1.12  highways regardless of the density of, or intervals between, 
  1.13  buildings contiguous to the street or highway.  
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.15     Minnesota Statutes 1994, sections 169.01, subdivision 59; 
  1.16  and 169.14, subdivision 5b, are repealed.
