  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to recreational vehicles; exempting 
  1.3             watercraft trailers and all-terrain vehicle trailers 
  1.4             from the prohibition against sale of motor vehicles on 
  1.5             Sunday; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.6             168.275. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 168.275, is 
  1.9   amended to read: 
  1.10     168.275 [SALE OF MOTOR VEHICLES ON SUNDAY FORBIDDEN.] 
  1.11     Any person who shall carry on or engage in the business of 
  1.12  buying, selling, exchanging, dealing in or trading in new or 
  1.13  used motor vehicles; or who shall open any place of business or 
  1.14  lot wherein the person attempts to or does engage in the 
  1.15  business of buying, selling, exchanging, dealing or trading in 
  1.16  new or used motor vehicles; or who does buy, sell, exchange, 
  1.17  deal or trade in new or used motor vehicles as a business on the 
  1.18  first day of the week, commonly known and designated as Sunday, 
  1.19  is guilty of a misdemeanor for the first offense, and a gross 
  1.20  misdemeanor for each succeeding offense.  Such a person upon 
  1.21  conviction for the first offense shall pay a fine not to exceed 
  1.22  $700 or be imprisoned for a period of not more than ten days; 
  1.23  and for the second offense shall pay a fine not to exceed $3,000 
  1.24  or be imprisoned for a period of not more than 30 days or both; 
  1.25  and for the third or each subsequent offense shall pay a fine of 
  1.26  not more than $3,000 or be imprisoned for a period of not more 
  2.1   than six months or both.  This section does not apply to the 
  2.2   sale of (1) trailers designed and used primarily to transport 
  2.3   watercraft, as defined in section 86B.005, subdivision 18, or (2)
  2.4   trailers designed and used primarily to transport all-terrain 
  2.5   vehicles, as defined in section 84.92, subdivision 8. 
  2.6      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.7      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
