  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state employment; allowing state employees 
  1.3             to opt out of direct deposit in certain circumstances; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2003 Supplement, section 
  1.5             16A.17, subdivision 10. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2003 Supplement, section 
  1.8   16A.17, subdivision 10, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 10.  [DIRECT DEPOSIT.] Notwithstanding section 
  1.10  177.23, the commissioner may require direct deposit for all 
  1.11  state employees who are being paid by the state payroll system.  
  1.12  If a state employee who is paid through the state payroll system 
  1.13  has moral or privacy concerns about being paid by direct 
  1.14  deposit, the state employee may submit a written objection to 
  1.15  direct deposit to the commissioner.  Upon receipt of the written 
  1.16  objection, the commissioner must process the pay of the employee 
  1.17  by payroll check beginning within 30 days of receipt of the 
  1.18  written objection.
