A bill for an act
relating to health; identifying in the Minnesota prescription monitoring program
restrictions on a prescriber's authority to prescribe controlled substances; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 152.126, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 152.126, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Prescribing restrictions to be documented. new text end

new text begin (a) The board shall identify
prescribers whose authority to prescribe controlled substances is restricted. The board shall
make information about any current restriction on a prescriber's prescribing authority readily
available to licensed dispensers, either by including the information in the prescription
monitoring program, or by otherwise providing periodic updates to licensees.

new text begin (b) On a quarterly basis, the board shall consult with the United States Drug Enforcement
Administration; the National Practitioner Data Bank, or any successor database; and each
Minnesota health-related licensing board that licenses prescribers to identify prescribers
whose authority to prescribe controlled substances is restricted.
