  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to towns; authorizing the charging and 
  1.3             collection of certain service charges; proposing 
  1.4             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 366. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [366.011] [CHARGES FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES; 
  1.7   COLLECTION.] 
  1.8      A town may impose a service charge for emergency services, 
  1.9   including fire, rescue, medical, and related services provided 
  1.10  by the town or contracted for by the town.  If the service 
  1.11  charge remains unpaid 30 days after a notice of delinquency is 
  1.12  sent to the recipient of the service or the recipient's 
  1.13  representative or estate, the town or its contractor on behalf 
  1.14  of the town may use any lawful means allowed to a private party 
  1.15  for the collection of an unsecured delinquent debt.  The town 
  1.16  may also use the authority of section 366.012 to collect unpaid 
  1.17  service charges of this kind from delinquent recipients of 
  1.18  services who are owners of taxable real property in the town. 
  1.19     The powers conferred by this section are in addition and 
  1.20  supplemental to the powers conferred by any other law for a town 
  1.21  to impose a service charge or assessment for a service provided 
  1.22  by the town or contracted for by the town.
