A bill for an act
relating to health care; appropriating money for an acute flaccid myelitis study.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin ACUTE FLACCID MYELITIS STUDY.

new text begin The commissioner of health shall conduct a study of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) cases
in Minnesota. As part of the study, the commissioner shall increase the detection of AFM
by strengthening existing surveillance systems to monitor trends of pathogens suspected of
contributing to AFM. The commissioner shall also provide education to health care providers
in order to enhance provider awareness of AFM and the earlier identification of cases and
the provision of treatment.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2020 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
health to conduct the acute flaccid myelitis study. This appropriation is available until June
30, 2021.
