  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to higher education; requiring certain 
  1.3             postsecondary students to receive information on 
  1.4             meningococcal disease; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             2002, section 135A.14, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 135A.14, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 6a.  [MENINGITIS INFORMATION.] Each public and 
  1.10  private postsecondary institution shall provide information on 
  1.11  the risks of meningococcal disease and on the availability and 
  1.12  effectiveness of any vaccine, to each individual who is a 
  1.13  first-time enrollee and who resides in on-campus student 
  1.14  housing.  The institution may provide the information in an 
  1.15  electronic format.  The institution must consult with the 
  1.16  department of health on the preparation of the informational 
  1.17  materials provided under this subdivision. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective June 1, 2003.
