A bill for an act
relating to energy; directing Legislative Energy Commission to analyze state
energy standards for certain appliances.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPLIANCE ENERGY STANDARDS; LEGISLATIVE ENERGY
COMMISSION.

new text begin The Legislative Energy Commission shall analyze the adoption of state energy
use standards for appliances it determines consume a significant amount of energy
statewide and for which the state is not preempted by federal law from adopting standards.
Televisions must be one of the appliances for which a standard must be analyzed. The
analysis must include:

new text begin (1) consideration of the effect of the standard on the appliance market in the state;
new text end

new text begin (2) the effect of the standard on consumer costs of purchasing and operating an
appliance;
new text end

new text begin (3) technical ability to comply with a standard currently and in the future; and
new text end

new text begin (4) energy savings achievable by a standard.
