  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; broadening the uses 
  1.3             permitted for emergency materials and equipment; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 88.065. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 88.065, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      88.065 [EQUIPMENT FURNISHED.] 
  1.9      Subject to applicable provisions of state laws respecting 
  1.10  purchases, the commissioner of natural resources may purchase 
  1.11  for and furnish to any governmental subdivisions of the state 
  1.12  authorized to engage in wildfire prevention or suppression 
  1.13  natural disaster relief materials or equipment therefor, and may 
  1.14  transport, repair, and renovate wildfire prevention and 
  1.15  suppression natural disaster relief materials and equipment for 
  1.16  governmental subdivisions of the state.  The commissioner may 
  1.17  use any funds available for the purchase of wildfire prevention 
  1.18  or suppression natural disaster relief equipment or for its 
  1.19  repair, transportation, and renovation under federal grants, if 
  1.20  permitted by the terms thereof, or under state appropriations, 
  1.21  unless otherwise expressly provided.  Except as otherwise 
  1.22  authorized or permitted by federal or state laws or regulations, 
  1.23  the governmental subdivision receiving any such materials or 
  1.24  services shall reimburse the state for the cost.  All moneys 
  1.25  received in reimbursement shall be credited to the fund from 
  2.1   which the purchase, transportation, repair, or renovation was 
  2.2   made, and are hereby reappropriated annually and shall be 
  2.3   available for the same purpose as the original 
  2.4   appropriation.  As used in this section, "natural disaster 
  2.5   relief "includes wildfire prevention or suppression, hazardous 
  2.6   material discharge control or clean-up, and flood or windstorm 
  2.7   relief.
