A bill for an act
relating to state government; establishing an annual observance for Philando Castile
Restoration and Unity Days; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 10.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin (a) July 6 and 7 each year are designated as Philando Castile Restoration and Unity Days
for the purpose of honoring the life and legacy of Philando Castile, a beloved member of
our community who worked as a nutrition service supervisor in Saint Paul Public Schools,
who will be remembered for buying lunches out of his own pocket for students who couldn't
afford them and who was tragically killed by police during a traffic stop on July 6, 2016,
in Falcon Heights, Minnesota.

new text begin (b) July 6 of each year is designated Philando Castile Restoration Day. Restoration Day
is a day to remember how important it is that each of us cross traditional borders between
communities, a day to meet someone and get to know someone different than us, a day to
listen to someone's story that is different from our own, a day to take steps of humility and
forgiveness in efforts to restore connectedness, and a day to build a broader and stronger
community.

coming together to express unity as we honor the life and legacy of Philando Castile and
all others lost to police violence.
