A bill for an act
relating to housing; appropriating money for a grant to Somali Community
Resettlement Services for a development project in the city of Minneapolis.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

SERVICES.

new text begin $5,000,000 in fiscal year 2025 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of employment and economic development for a grant to Somali Community Resettlement
Services (SCRS), a 501(c)(3) organization. This appropriation must be used to address the
critical need for affordable housing and commercial space for the Somali community in
Minneapolis by acquiring from the city of Minneapolis and developing a three-acre parcel
of land to create a mixed-use residential and commercial development that will include a
minimum of 60 affordable apartments and ten retail spaces. This appropriation includes
money for land acquisition, site preparation, planning and design, and initial construction
costs.
