  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; providing for 
  1.3             enhancements to the criminal assessment program in the 
  1.4             bureau of criminal apprehension; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      For the fiscal biennium ending June 30, 1997, $371,000 is 
  1.8   appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of public 
  1.9   safety to be used by the bureau of criminal apprehension to 
  1.10  create within its criminal assessment program (CAP) an 
  1.11  integrated computer system.  The system shall contain the sex 
  1.12  offender registration database, the Minnesota sex crimes 
  1.13  analysis program database, the photo retrieval database, and 
  1.14  other CAP or state computer databases.  This appropriation shall 
  1.15  not become part of the base for the 1998-1999 budget. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.17     For the fiscal biennium ending June 30, 1997, $165,000 is 
  1.18  appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of public 
  1.19  safety to be used by the bureau of criminal apprehension to 
  1.20  purchase additional computer and special agent equipment for the 
  1.21  CAP unit.  This appropriation shall not become part of the base 
  1.22  for the 1998-1999 budget. 
  1.23     Sec. 3.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.24     For the fiscal biennium ending June 30, 1997, $649,500 is 
  1.25  appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of public 
  2.1   safety to be used by the bureau of criminal apprehension to fund 
  2.2   six new positions in its CAP unit, including two clerk typists, 
  2.3   two special agents, one criminal intelligence analyst, and one 
  2.4   management information systems coordinator.
