A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; appropriating money to acquire land for wellhead
protection and ash tree disposal.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin WELLHEAD PROTECTION AND ASH TREE DISPOSAL;
APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $2,500,000 in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the Board of
Water and Soil Resources for grants to local units of government to acquire woodchipping
equipment and for infrastructure improvements and other equipment necessary to facilitate
ash tree disposal at designated sites. The ash tree disposal sites must be located on land
where the vulnerability of the drinking water supply is designated as high or very high by
the commissioner of health. Of this appropriation, $....... is available to acquire land in fee
to permanently protect groundwater supply sources at the ash tree disposal sites. This is a
onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2023.
