  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; removing the limit on 
  1.3             the amount a local government may contribute for 
  1.4             historical work; permitting local governments to make 
  1.5             contributions to public or private, nonprofit senior 
  1.6             citizen centers or youth centers; amending Minnesota 
  1.7             Statutes 1998, section 471.93; proposing coding for 
  1.8             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 471. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 471.93, is 
  1.11  amended to read: 
  1.12     471.93 [APPROPRIATIONS FOR HISTORICAL WORK BY 
  1.13  MUNICIPALITIES.] 
  1.14     In cities of the second, third or fourth class, and 
  1.15  statutory cities at any regular or properly called special 
  1.16  meeting of the council, it may appropriate money for the purpose 
  1.17  of collecting, preserving, storing, housing, printing, 
  1.18  publishing, distributing and exhibiting data and material 
  1.19  pertaining to the history of the city, for the purpose of 
  1.20  commemorating the anniversary of any important and outstanding 
  1.21  event in such history, and to preserve such history data and 
  1.22  material for future generations.  The amount appropriated shall 
  1.23  not exceed $2,000 in any one year. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [471.935] [APPROPRIATIONS FOR SENIOR, YOUTH 
  1.25  CENTERS.] 
  1.26     A statutory or home rule charter city, county, or town may 
  1.27  appropriate money to support the facilities, programs, and 
  2.1   services of a public or private, not-for-profit senior citizen 
  2.2   center or youth center.
