  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the environment; requiring a report to the 
  1.3             legislature on pesticide management. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [PESTICIDE REPORTING.] 
  1.6      (a) The commissioner of agriculture, in cooperation with 
  1.7   the University of Minnesota extension service; the commissioners 
  1.8   of administration; children, families, and learning; health; 
  1.9   transportation; natural resources; and the pollution control 
  1.10  agency; and other interested parties, must statistically review 
  1.11  the use of pesticide and integrated pest management techniques 
  1.12  and practices as they are applied to the use and storage of 
  1.13  pesticides in and around a representative sample of buildings 
  1.14  owned by the state and buildings and grounds used for K-12 
  1.15  public education.  Recommendations by the commissioner of 
  1.16  agriculture on the use and avoidance of pesticides and 
  1.17  comprehensive integrated pest management practices in state 
  1.18  buildings and K-12 public school buildings, including the 
  1.19  training of building managers and school personnel, must be 
  1.20  presented to the environmental policy and finance committees of 
  1.21  the legislature by January 15, 2001. 
  1.22     (b) For purposes of the review and report in paragraph (a), 
  1.23  the term "pesticide" has the meaning given in Minnesota 
  1.24  Statutes, section 18B.01, subdivision 18, except that it does 
  2.1   not include disinfectants, sanitizers, deodorizers, or 
  2.2   antimicrobial agents for general cleaning purposes. 
  2.3      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.4      This act is effective the day following final enactment.
