A bill for an act
relating to employment; providing up to three hours of paid leave in any
12-month period for state employees to donate blood; authorizing employers to
provide leave to employees to donate blood; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapters 43A; 181.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [43A.187] BLOOD DONATION LEAVE.

new text begin A state employee must be granted leave from work with 100 percent of pay, not to
exceed three hours in a 12-month period, to donate blood at a location away from the place
of work. A state employee seeking leave from work under this section must provide 14
days' notice to the appointing authority. This leave must not affect the employee's vacation
leave, pension, compensatory time, personal vacation days, sick leave, earned overtime
accumulation, or cause a loss of seniority.
