A bill for an act
relating to crime; modifying crime and increasing sentence of interfering with
a body or scene of death; amending Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 609.502,
subdivision 1, by adding subdivisions.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 609.502, subdivision 1, is amended to read:


Subdivision 1.

Concealing evidence.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 609.502, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin A person convicted under subdivision 1 may be sentenced to
imprisonment for not more than ten years or to a payment of a fine of not more than
$20,000 or both.

Sec. 3.

Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 609.502, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin The court shall order any person convicted of a violation of
subdivision 1, clause (1), to make full restitution of all reasonable expenses incurred by a
law enforcement agency engaged in efforts to locate the body.

new text begin This section is effective August 1, 2016, and applies to crimes
committed on or after that date.
