  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; defining first responder; amending 
  1.3             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 144.801, by adding a 
  1.4             subdivision. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 144.801, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 11.  [FIRST RESPONDER.] "First responder" means an 
  1.9   individual who is certified by the commissioner to perform, at a 
  1.10  minimum, basic emergency skills before the arrival of a licensed 
  1.11  ambulance service, and is: 
  1.12     (1) a member of an organized service recognized by a local 
  1.13  political subdivision whose primary responsibility is to respond 
  1.14  to medical emergencies to provide initial medical care before 
  1.15  the arrival of a licensed ambulance service; or 
  1.16     (2) a member of an organized industrial medical first 
  1.17  response team.
