  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; allowing the commissioner of 
  1.3             agriculture to establish alternative term expiration 
  1.4             dates for members of the dairy research and promotion 
  1.5             council; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.6             17.54, subdivision 13. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 17.54, 
  1.9   subdivision 13, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 13.  [TERMS; DAIRY COUNCIL.] Notwithstanding 
  1.11  subdivision 5, the term of office of members of any council 
  1.12  established for the producers of cows' milk or products derived 
  1.13  from cows' milk shall be as provided in this subdivision.  The 
  1.14  term of office shall be two years, with the terms of half the 
  1.15  council members expiring June 30 in odd-numbered years, and the 
  1.16  terms of the remaining council members expiring June 30 in 
  1.17  even-numbered years.  All terms expire on June 30 of the last 
  1.18  year of the term unless another date is established by the 
  1.19  commissioner for the council.
