  1.2             relating to health plans; regulating contract 
  1.3             stacking; providing a remedy; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 62Q.74, subdivision 
  1.5             1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 
  1.8   62Q.74, subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [DEFINITIONS.] (a) For purposes of this 
  1.10  section, the terms defined in this subdivision have the meanings 
  1.11  given. 
  1.12     (b) "Category of coverage" means one of the following types 
  1.13  of health-related coverage: 
  1.14     (1) health; 
  1.15     (2) no-fault automobile medical benefits; or 
  1.16     (3) workers' compensation medical benefits. 
  1.17     (c) "Health care provider" or "provider" has the meaning 
  1.18  given in section sections 147.011 and 148.01. 
  1.19     (d) "Network organization" means a preferred provider 
  1.20  organization as defined in section 145.61, subdivision 4c; a 
  1.21  managed care organization as defined in section 62Q.01, 
  1.22  subdivision 5; or other entity that uses or consists of a 
  1.23  network of health care providers; but does not include a 
  1.24  nonprofit health service plan corporation operating under 
  1.25  chapter 62C or its affiliates. 
  2.1      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.2      Section 1 is effective for contracts entered into or 
  2.3   renewed after August 1, 2000.
