A bill for an act
relating to commerce; regulating real estate licenses; requiring the renewal or
reinstatement of the license of certain veterans; amending Minnesota Statutes
2014, section 82.62, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 82.62, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Veterans; renewal or reinstatement of nonrenewed or canceled license.

new text begin (a) The commissioner shall renew the license of a qualified veteran who has not timely
renewed the license or shall reinstate the license of a qualified veteran whose license has
been canceled for failure of the licensee to complete the applicable education requirements.
The commissioner may not require the licensee to take an examination or complete any
applicable education requirements during the renewal or reinstatement period.

new text begin (b) For purposes of this section, "qualified veteran" means: (1) an active duty
military member or spouse of an active duty military member on the date of the license
cancellation or the date by which a timely renewal must have been made; or (2) a veteran
or spouse of a veteran who has left service in the two years preceding the date of the
license cancellation or the date by which a timely renewal must have been made.
