A bill for an act
relating to state procurement; prohibiting the use of state revenues to purchase
water in single-use plastic bottles; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 16C.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

For the purposes of this section, the following terms have
the meanings given them.

(a) "Bottled water" means water contained in a formed or molded container that is sealed
and is comprised primarily of plastic resin and intended primarily as a single-service
container.

(b) "Water" means natural spring or well water; water from municipal or private utility
systems or other sources; distilled, deionized, filtered, or other purified water; mineral water;
carbonated, sparkling, or tonic water; or any of the foregoing to which a chemical or flavoring
is added.

No state agency, officer, employee, department,
board, committee, commission, council, authority, advisory task force, entity, or organization
of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of state government shall use state funds to
purchase bottled water for its own general use or for use at meetings or events.

This section is effective the day following final enactment and
applies to purchases made on or after that date.
