  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to railroads; authorizing cities to regulate 
  1.3             the sounding of audible warning signals by 
  1.4             locomotives; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 
  1.5             219.567. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 219.567, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      219.567 [FAILURE TO RING BELL RAILROAD WARNING SIGNALS.] 
  1.10     Subdivision 1.  [FAILURE TO SOUND SIGNALS.] An engineer 
  1.11  driving a locomotive on a railway who fails (1) to ring the bell 
  1.12  or sound the whistle on the locomotive, or have it rung or 
  1.13  sounded, at least 80 rods from a place where the railway crosses 
  1.14  a traveled road or street on the same level, except in cities, 
  1.15  or (2) to continue ringing the bell or sounding the whistle at 
  1.16  intervals until the locomotive and attached train have 
  1.17  completely crossed the road or street, is guilty of a 
  1.18  misdemeanor.  
  1.19     Subd. 2.  [LOCAL ORDINANCES.] A statutory or home rule 
  1.20  charter city may by ordinance regulate the sounding of warning 
  1.21  bells, whistles, or other audible signals by a locomotive within 
  1.22  the city limits.
