  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to government; revising provisions limiting 
  1.3             the compensation of certain government officials to a 
  1.4             percentage of the governor's salary; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 15A.081, 
  1.6             subdivision 7b; repealing Minnesota Statutes 1995 
  1.7             Supplement, section 43A.17, subdivision 9. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 
  1.10  15A.081, subdivision 7b, is amended to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 7b. [HIGHER EDUCATION OFFICERS.] The board of 
  1.12  trustees of the Minnesota state colleges and universities, state 
  1.13  university board, the state board for community colleges, the 
  1.14  state board of technical colleges, and the higher education 
  1.15  services office shall set the salary rates for, respectively, 
  1.16  the chancellor of the higher education system, the chancellor of 
  1.17  the state universities, the chancellor of the community 
  1.18  colleges, the chancellor of vocational technical education, and 
  1.19  the executive director of the higher education services office.  
  1.20  The respective board shall submit the proposed salary increase 
  1.21  to the legislative coordinating commission for approval, 
  1.22  modification, or rejection in the manner provided in section 
  1.23  3.855.  Salary rates for the positions specified in this 
  1.24  subdivision may not exceed 95 percent of the salary of the 
  1.25  governor under section 15A.082, subdivision 3. In deciding 
  1.26  whether to recommend a salary increase, the governing board 
  2.1   shall consider the performance of the chancellor or director, 
  2.2   including the chancellor's or director's progress toward 
  2.3   attaining affirmative action goals.  
  2.4      Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  2.5      Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 43A.17, 
  2.6   subdivision 9, is repealed.
