A bill for an act
relating to human services; expanding Minnesota family investment program
(MFIP) hardship extensions; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section
256J.425, by adding a subdivision.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 256J.425, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

An assistance unit subject to the time limit in
section 256J.42, subdivision 1, is eligible to receive assistance under a hardship extension
from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2012, if the participant who reached the time limit:

(1) lives in a county with an unemployment rate of five percent or higher;

(2) does not qualify for another extension under this section; and
new text end
new text begin
(3) meets the MFIP eligibility criteria in this chapter, except the requirement that the
participant be in compliance in the 60th month of receiving assistance.

Sanction provisions in subdivisions 6 and 7 apply to participants extended under this
subdivision.
