  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; health; requiring coverage for 
  1.3             prostate cancer screening; proposing coding for new 
  1.4             law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62Q. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [62Q.50] [PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING.] 
  1.7      A health plan must cover prostate cancer screening for men 
  1.8   40 years of age or over who are symptomatic or in a high-risk 
  1.9   category and for all men 50 years of age or older. 
  1.10     The screening must consist at a minimum of a 
  1.11  prostate-specific antigen blood test and a digital rectal 
  1.12  examination. 
  1.13     This coverage is subject to any deductible, coinsurance, 
  1.14  copayment, or other limitation on coverage applicable to other 
  1.15  coverages under the plan. 
  1.16     For purposes of this section, "health plan" includes 
  1.17  coverage that is excluded under section 62A.011, subdivision 3, 
  1.18  clauses (7) and (10). 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1996, and applies to all 
  1.21  health plans issued or renewed to provide coverage to Minnesota 
  1.22  residents on or after that date.
