  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the legislature; requiring findings and 
  1.3             recommendations on major league sports. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS RECOMMENDATIONS.] 
  1.6      The legislative commission on planning and fiscal policy 
  1.7   shall make findings and recommendations to the legislature no 
  1.8   later than September 1, 1997, on ways and means to secure and 
  1.9   provide for a long-term commitment of professional major league 
  1.10  sports teams, specifically major league baseball, to play their 
  1.11  home games in this state and within the metropolitan area, as 
  1.12  defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 473.121, subdivision 2. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.] 
  1.14     The metropolitan sports facilities commission shall provide 
  1.15  such technical expertise including independent consultants, at 
  1.16  the direction of the legislative commission on planning and 
  1.17  fiscal plicy, as may be required with respect to deliberations 
  1.18  on this issue incurred through September 1, 1997.  The 
  1.19  metropolitan sports facilities commission shall not be 
  1.20  responsible for any reimbursement to the legislative commission 
  1.21  on planning and fiscal policy for per diem or out of state 
  1.22  travel expenses that otherwise may be paid to legislators for 
  1.23  service on the legislative commission on planning and fiscal 
  1.24  policy. 
  2.1      Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.2      This act is effective the day after final enactment.
