  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; requiring that teachers of the 
  1.3             visually impaired demonstrate competence in reading 
  1.4             and writing Braille; requiring rules; proposing coding 
  1.5             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 125. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [125.192] [TEACHER LICENSURE.] 
  1.8      Teachers licensed in the education of blind and visually 
  1.9   impaired students must demonstrate competence in reading and 
  1.10  writing Braille.  The board of teaching shall adopt rules to 
  1.11  assess these competencies that are consistent with standards 
  1.12  adopted by the National Library Services for the Blind and 
  1.13  Physically Handicapped.
