  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; delaying the repeal of the 
  1.3             state board of education; amending Laws 1998, chapter 
  1.4             398, article 6, sections 38 and 39. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Laws 1998, chapter 398, article 6, section 38, 
  1.7   is amended to read: 
  1.8      Sec. 38.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.9      (a) Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 121.11, subdivisions 
  1.10  5, 7, 7b, 9, 11, 12, and 14; and Minnesota Statutes 1997 
  1.11  Supplement, section 121.11, subdivision 7e, are repealed 
  1.12  effective December 31, 1999 2000. 
  1.13     (b) Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 121.11, subdivision 
  1.14  7d, is repealed effective January 10, 1999. 
  1.15     (c) Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 124.647; and Minnesota 
  1.16  Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 169.452, are repealed. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  Laws 1998, chapter 398, article 6, section 39, is 
  1.18  amended to read: 
  1.19     Sec. 39.  [EFFECTIVE DATES.] 
  1.20     (a) Sections 1 to 13 are Section 1 is effective December 
  1.21  31, 1999.  Sections 2 to 13 are effective December 31, 2000. 
  1.22     (b) Sections 14, 28, 34, and 35 are effective the day 
  1.23  following final enactment. 
  1.24     (c) Sections 17, 25, and 26 are effective July 1, 1998. 
  1.25     (d) Section 29 is effective for the 2000-2001 school year. 
  2.1      (e) Section 36 is effective June 30, 1998. 
  2.2      Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.3      Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.4   enactment.
