  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor vehicles; directing registrar to 
  1.3             revoke vehicle registrations obtained with worthless 
  1.4             checks; requiring notice to deputy registrars; 
  1.5             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.6             chapter 168. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [168.171] [REGISTRATION REVOCATION; BAD CHECK.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [BAD CHECK VIOLATION; REVOCATION.] The 
  1.10  registrar shall revoke the registration and number plates when: 
  1.11     (1) a person issues a worthless check, for which the issuer 
  1.12  may be held liable under section 332.50 or 609.535; 
  1.13     (2) the worthless check was issued to the registrar or a 
  1.14  deputy registrar to obtain registration plates or to satisfy the 
  1.15  vehicle registration requirements of this chapter; and 
  1.16     (3) the registrar is satisfied, from any documentary 
  1.17  evidence submitted, that the issuer of the worthless check is in 
  1.18  violation of or may be held liable under section 332.50 or 
  1.19  609.535. 
  1.20     Subd. 2.  [NOTICE TO DEPUTY REGISTRARS.] (a) The registrar 
  1.21  and deputy registrars shall refuse to allow a person whose 
  1.22  registration has been revoked under subdivision 1 to 
  1.23  subsequently be allowed to register or reregister a vehicle 
  1.24  until the debt incurred under subdivision 1 and any fees or 
  1.25  costs allowed against the issuer under section 332.50 or 609.535 
  1.26  have been paid or otherwise satisfied. 
  2.1      (b) The registrar shall notify all deputy registrars in the 
  2.2   state at least every 90 days of the names of all persons, and 
  2.3   corresponding registration plate numbers, whose registration has 
  2.4   been revoked under subdivision 1.  The registrar may also 
  2.5   provide other identifying information the registrar considers 
  2.6   useful in assisting deputy registrars.
